We are excited to congratulate our very own Piranha, SAMUEL HIGGS, on his selection onto the Swimming Australia Team for the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games from 4 โ 11 August 2023 in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago. The Swimming Australia Selection committee selected 10 athletes from the recent 2023 Australian Age Championships to represent Australia at these games, also known as Trinbago 2023.
Joining the swimming team will be our Head Coach Cameron Gledhill who has also been selected as one of three coaches on the Swimming Australia coaching team.
Earlier this year Sam (and Cameron) were selected on the Swimming Australia 2023 National Open Water Development Camp, an elite training camp for which Sam was chosen after his outstanding Open Water Nationals swim in Busselton in January.
So it comes as no surprise that 16 year old Sam’s successes in the finals at the recent National Age Championships earned him a spot on the Australian Youth Team. Sam’s GOLD result in the 400IM not only would have earned him an A finals spot in the Open National competition but would have earnt him a 7th place spot ahead of many older competitors.
Congratulations Sam – we are so very proud of you and it just goes to show that all your hard work in and out of the pool is paying off! You have our full support, we wish you well and we are all looking forward to seeing you on the world stage in August
