Sunday saw our first Swim Meet after 13 weeks out of the pool and 21 weeks since our last competition. It was a long time in lockdown but we eventually came out smiling.
We had the majority of the Area Swim Clubs support our meet with 360 swimmers competing in a different format where the ages were split into 13 & Over and 12 & Under. Seniors were up first and it was soon very apparent that the lockdown hadn’t slowed many people down with PBs getting smashed left, right and centre – an amazing and surprising result given the lengthy enforced break! Congratulations to the many swimmers who made State and National qualifying times! The Seniors finished with a 50m Dash for Cash and saw Luke B from Narrabeen and our own Zara K take out the $100 each.
Following the lunch break, the juniors took to the pool with many of the senior swimmers hanging around to mentor and help the younger competitors, some of whom were attending their first competition. There were many happy and excited faces all round, from the competitors to the technical officials and volunteers. The day ended with the junior Dash for Cash and saw a hotly contested fast paced race finish with Dylan Z from KPSC and our own Jazzy P take out final honours and earn themselves $100 each.
It was such a fun day of friendly competition and so nice to finally catch up with all our swimming friends. We had a lovely lunchtime visit from Mayor Michael Regan who took the time to say hello to our community and graciously allowed us to get some photos. Some of our senior swimmers (mainly Alex) also had the camera clicking all day and managed to capture a lot of the action in and out of the water around pool deck. Only some of the photos are included this article as there were far too many to include all of them but reach out to us if you want to check them out.
We would really love to acknowledge our sponsors IGA Allambie, Northern Beaches Council and North Head Fitness. We are very fortunate indeed, that we have the support of these local legends. Thank you also to the Clubs and Coaches who supported our meet, it’s great to be surrounded by so many wonderful Clubs in our Area.
Finally a huge thank you to the Technical Officials and volunteers without whom these events could not be run. It’s very rewarding for all the volunteers to see the beaming faces of the swimmers having such a great day of fun competition and we’re all looking forward to the next one!
