That’s a wrap on the 2022 Australian Open Water Championships. 7 Piranhas battled the field on a warm clear sunny day in Brighton Beach, Adelaide.
First to take to the water in nice calm conditions we had Luke, Braith & Will compete in the Boys 14-15yrs 5k with Luke taking out the honours in 1st place for the 14s – congratulations Luke! Following closely was Braith earning 10th place and Will in 19th place in the 15yrs.
Next to take to the water was Macy who battled her heart out in a nail biting finish just out of medal contention to place 4th.
After a short break we had Sam and Alex take to the busy water in the Boys 16-19Yrs 5k. It was a fast and furious field of 60+ and difficult to work out placings but in the end our Sam touched 2nd, a mere 0.01 off the 1st place getter with Alex shortly after coming in 9th place. Congratulations boys, youngest competitors beating most of the older swimmers!
Finally it was Dom’s turn in the girls 16-19 yrs 5k. In a massive field of 70+ swimmers, Dom quickly joined the lead group and showed them she was a force to be reckoned. Dom took out the Silver medal in a closely contested finish, and like the Higgs boys beat most of the older competitors.
Congratulations to our hardworking Piranhas this weekend, we’re very proud of you all and thank you to Coach Cam for guiding the team to more success in the last competitive event under the Big Blue Swimming umbrella.
