2022 SNSW SC Metro Champs

July 21, 2022 by admin

The last time SNSW was able to hold a Short Course Metro Champs was in 2019 so it was a welcome relief that the SC Metros were able to proceed again in 2022.

Warringah had 47 swimmers compete in 166 races supported by our 3 amazing coaches. Day 1 was a short but sweet 3 hours which saw 6 of our swimmers on the podium with Matt taking out Gold and Sam taking the Bronze in the 200IM. Not to be outdone, Luke was next on the podium with a Bronze in the 400FR. Dom and Macy also had great swims in the 400FR with Dom taking the Gold and Macy the Bronze. Our super breaststroker and National champion, Bailey, showed them who’s boss and took out the Gold in the 100BR.

Day 2 was just as exciting with Dom leading the medal charge taking Silver in the 800FR. Lachlan followed with a nearly 3 second PB in the 100BK taking out the Gold. Sam showed us he wasn’t finished making the headlines and broke the NSW Metropolitan Boys 15 years 800m Freestyle record with a 9 second PB in 8:20.79. Not content with that, he backed up that massive swim with a podium finish in the 200BF taking out Silver. Bailey showed them who’s boss in the 50FR taking the Gold again. It was a nail biting finish in the girls 11 years 100FR with Matilda and Joce neck and neck through to the finish with Matilda joining in the medal tally taking out the Gold and Joce taking out the Silver.

The final Day was a longer day and Macy kicked off the medal tally taking Silver in the 1500FR. Sam wasn’t content with a Silver and Bronze so smashed his way to Gold in the 200BK. Dom also took home another Silver medal in the 200BK. Then it was the freestylers turn with Matt taking the Bronze and Dom taking the Gold in the 100FR. It was the Higgs and Higgs show next with Sam and Luke tackling the gruelling 400IM. What a race!! Both boys swam their hearts out with massive PBs with Sam earning Gold and Luke earning Silver. Bailey took to the water in the 200BR with another Gold taking out the Breaststroke trifecta. The excitement didn’t stop there with Joce deciding she wanted back on the podium so took the Silver in the 100BK and the Gold in the 100BF.

An awesome 3 days of fast racing, medals, records and teamwork. In all there were 97 PBs, 69 Top Ten finishes, 11 Gold, 7 Silver, and 4 Bronze medals putting Warringah 3rd on the Medal Tally. The race for 3rd place in the overall point scores was extremely tight with Warringah ending up in 5th place.

It was great to hear our swimmers cheering on and supporting their fellow team mates ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป

Thanks again to our amazing coaches and to all the technical officials and volunteers ๐Ÿ™

Looking forward to our next meet in 2 weeks time – see you at the WAC!
